What's the main differences
What's all the response hertz stuff mean?
Oh and what's wrong with a big modern telly as a monitor? Can you do That?

Hertz is the refresh rate, the numbers of times the screen is updated per second. It's a bit like FPS your graphics card putting out.
60Hertz is just about the minimum you want from a gaming screen. 120 is better, 144 is better'er... Thing is 4K has not been around for that long. most are only capable of 30 but you want at least 60. 30 is fine for a TV but bolloxs for gaming.
Response rate is a measurement of how long it takes a pixel to change. For gaming you need this to be the fast as possible.
Lag is not often mentioned by monitor makers but again it's real important for gaming. You don't want the signal sent from your PC to be delayed, what you are doing is lagging behind what is happening on the screen.
Other things to mention are colour accuracy, edge bleed, and things like how even the backlight is.
TV's need less of everything compared to PC monitor. 4K is so new there is a wide range of quality out there. The one I posted about in the other thread is the best quality price right now.

Not a gimmick, there are several that prefer them to 4K. It's all about getting more real-estate on screen without having to use more than one monitor.
Some think that 4K is the answer but others think ultra-wide is the way to go. Both technology's are relativity new. Until very recently no graphics card could push a 4K monitor, Ultra-wide has fewer pixels so is easer to do.
Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Just a thought, nice pressie for that time of year that argos have been shouting about linkNo wonder you can't see anything on BF4 seeing as you old card is trying to push that many pixels! 1080p = 2073600 New Monitor = 4953600 2880000 more pixels to push your old card was having a hard enough time running BF4 at 1080p. I can see a 980 Ti in your future...
