This one looks very interesting... Has everything I would want from a game.

Sign me up for that one - looks brilliant. Gives Insurgency the eye candy and the depth Hue rightly felt is missing. Probably be a long time before it comes out though I suppose.

Well on you Pen' but do you think it will ever actually get made and come online or just wither on the vine due to lack of ongoing money? DayZ still isn't finished for example. I wonder if people will just lose interest if it all takes too long and never gets finished

Things on kickstarter tend to follow one of two models. Pipe Dreams that are just a money grab and publicity for an established product. I get the feeling that this will fall into the second category. They appear to be quite a long way along, with ingame footage in their video.
A successful kickstarter can be very useful. It can be an indicator of demand, great figures to show your investors. These guys have a hit on their hands as it hit it's target within two days.
If it's something you might want to do, give them some of your money? Well that's down to you, I backed Insurgency that one failed to reach it's target but still they got it done in the end, and now we have a great game. I also backed Ground Branch, again it failed to reach it's goal. The guys are still working on the project but the game is still not out. Ravaged did come out and it was an OK game but it just didn't take off in a big way.
As Battalion has already reached it's goal at this point you would be preordering the game and getting into the beta.

that does look rather good
looks nice, and back to basics.
The lads in the film seem genuine, and the video production is high, hope they do it

Looks like they will get whatever funding they want. The Kickstarter goal was £100k they have over £244k! That is a whole heap of money plus free publicity. A show of goodwill from the gaming community. There will be customers out there for their game. These are the things that make publishers very happy.

cool thanks pen
I do occasionally wonder when you get to see game footage like these fellas have released that it often 'Looks' finished, I guess there must be still loads to do to the coding, but that video does make the game look very finished, unless they only have a very small map/level finished to demonstrate?

All of the shots of woodland are assets that come with the game engine development tool. The are using unReal the tool is free and there is a large marketplace where developers make assets even templated for whole games. These things are for sale in the market. www.unrealengine.com/marketplaceA game dev can buy these assets and put them together into a game. Infact some unscrupulous game devs are doing this in the worse way. They buy one of these bare bones games, change the name and are putting it on Steam. This is called an Asset Flip. Right now there are about four version of a simple zombie game on sale on Steam right now. When game devs use the marketplace properly they get access to high quality items at reasonable cost and it puts them in contact with 3D artist that can help make their games. unReal take their cut of course, that is their business model.
